Glide Panel Magic:

Overview

Glide Panel Magic is a PVII Widget that lets you present some or all of your Web page content in a logically structured, engaging, and compact format (as this page illustrates). You can, for instance, display product facts, multi-part forms, or multi-step tutorials, in logical chunks—and in a unique and visually engaging way. The Glide Panel Magic navigation bar quickly identifies major sections and minimizes page scrolling by keeping more information above the fold.

Uncompromisingly usable

Your information is presented in a search engine-friendly, standards-based (x)html structure that's accessible to all users at all times, even when JavaScript is not available. Navigation links are keyboard accessible and act as ordinary named anchors when JavaScript is not available, to deliver users straight to the relevant content.

The navigation bar and the content panels are presented in a 2-column unit with links to the left and content on the right. You can insert your widget inside any DIV or table cell and it will adapt to the width of that element, whether the width is fixed, liquid, or fluid.

Building better widgets

Requirements

Glide Menu Magic requires Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 or higher or Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 or higher—on either Windows or Mac OS X.

Fireworks MX 2004 or higher is recommended to facillitate editing navigation bar background images. You can, however, recreate or substitute your own images made in any image editing program.

Browser support

Glide Panel Magic is fully functional in all modern browsers (Windows, Mac, and Linux) and degrades gracefully in older browsers.

Usable and Accessible

User Interface

The Glide Panel Magic interface lets you create one or more Glide Panel widgets on your page instantly.

The UI allows you to:

  • Add, remove, or reposition the Trigger Links and their respective content panels
  • Set or edit the Trigger Text
  • Make a Trigger Link a link Only so that it loads a new page rather than triggering a content panel
  • Set or change the content panel that shows when the page loads
  • Set or change the Animation Method
  • Set or remove the Current Marker feature
  • Enable or disable Back Button support
  • Set or change the Style Theme
It's Automatic

Style Themes

Glide Panel Magic includes 6 style themes.

  1. Carbon
  2. Greystone
  3. Bluestone
  4. Ruby
  5. Aero
  6. Citrus

Customization

The navigation bar can be separated from the content column and placed anywhere on your page—in a left or right column or at the top of your page. You can even style your navigation bar to display horizontally. The following pages show two custom methods that are fully documented in the Glide Panel Magic User Guide:

Glide Panel with horizontal navigation bar

Glide Panel with navigation bar in floated right column
